A lot of those in the engineering and design fields these days are giving some thought to feng shui, which dates to antiquity and concerns the placement of furniture within a home or office, even the placement of buildings themselves to encourage the positive flow of energy. So why is feng shui making such a comeback and more importantly, why now?

More of an art than a science, there are few if any rules written in stone to the practice of feng shui. There is plenty of room for the practitioner to work as they see fit. This gives you a lot of flexibility to use the principles of feng shui in a way that works best for you.

This does not mean, however, that there is no science behind feng shui. For instance take the advice given by interior designers to keep the rooms of a house tidy. There is a sound reason behind this - a messy room can lead to depression and keep one from being at their most productive, besides simply being unsightly.

In Feng Shui, a lot of stress is given on the right color use. For example, it is said that you should use bright colors such orange and yellow in rooms where maximum energy is required (kitchen and dining room can be example). Warmer colors like browns and greens can be uses in places of comfort like the bedroom and the loving room, where you need to feel cozy and protected.

Scientists and biologists know that there is a great deal of fact in the thought that color affects mood. Bright and bold colors can perk you up, while darker colors can bring your mood down. Feng shui may not have decades of biological research under its belt, but it is interesting how it encouraged this type of thinking long before science came on board.

Many people are also interested in this ancient practice because they are looking to get the most amount of energy into their lives as they can. With our lives being as busy as they are today, with everyone being stressed and anxious not just from work but from all the other activities that they are trying to add in as well, its no wonder that people are turning to feng shui ” or any other remedy thats available ” to give them a good pick me up.

Using feng shui can’t cause any harm, so it is worth the time to try it out. The worst that can happen is that you’ll tidy up and maybe repaint a room or two - and it could bring you energy you didn’t even know you had!

So it seems that feng shui is here to stay, as they say. This ancient art and science has found its way into our modern lives in a major way. Whether its the use of color or of how to encourage the best traffic flow in ones house, many modern adherents are welcoming this ancient teaching into their lives on a daily basis.
