For many people who suffer with back pain, they live in constant agony; affecting almost every type of activity, only back pain relief medication seems to help for a while. Whilst prescription pain relief pills may in fact dull the pain to a manageable degree, they do not treat the root cause of the problem.

Many people with spinal problems become addicted to the medication that relieves the back pain but this should really be the responsibility of a doctor. Back pain is often caused by muscle strains, repeated strenuous exercises and poor sitting posture.

Most spinal problems are a result of lifting heavy weights but they can also be caused by lifting even light weights incorrectly, the pain is usually experienced in the lower back. More recently people are willing to try natural back pain relief treatments to stop their reliance on other types of medication. An easy, inexpensive method to treat pain and bring relief is stretching; it actually relaxes the back muscles which can become knotted and tight, causing discomfort.

Some people are now discovering the benefits of reflexology. Massaging the feet in certain areas bring relief to a number of back pain sufferers. Often to compensate for our pain, the back muscles over compensate. Reflexology can help provide relief by improving the circulation which in turn relaxes these hard worked muscles.

Although acupuncture is an age old Chinese medical practice that has been used for thousands of years, it is only recently that the Western world has accepted it as an alternative form of back pain relief. The Chinese believed all humans have an energy force called qi and by inserting needles in specific parts of the body, it can help to unblock qi and restore the flow. Many sufferers swear by the use of acupuncture and results from many tests often back this claim. This treatment has indicating the patient does receive pain relief by using this method.

Tai Chi is also another ancient Chinese discipline which is basically a type of exercise similar to yoga except it is slower. Tai Chi is however very gentle and easily performed by young and older people. It focuses on breathing exercises with additional stretching movements.

A good preventative form of back pain relief is to actually exercise more regularly. This not only conditions the back but is an excellent preventative measure.

Whether people believe it or not, climbing is a strenuous activity. In fact, that is why so many people do it when on their holidays! My family travled to Murcia, Spain last summer to climb. Many people feel that pushing themselves to the edge is a huge thrill; however, if you’ve trained yourself it is not a thrill it is in fact a bodily punishment!

When climbing one accommodation you should make for yourself, is time to stretch and warm up. In fact, that is the most important thing because climbing uses almost every muscle in your body. Using your muscles while they are tight can cause many problems, such as cubital fossa, ligament strains, or other medical problems. Any problems can arise at any time; however, if you stretch it will reduce the percentage!

When stretching, it is ideal to exercise for 10-15 minutes as well as stretching. However, you do not want to use a lot of energy as you will need it for the climb, but you should get your heart pumping faster.

When climbing, building strength is a key factor. You will need strength for numerous things such as for a good grip, the ability to pull yourself up will little help from your legs, amongst other reasons. Also, an effective basic to climbing is being able to hold yourself with one hand for several minutes or longer.

There are many different exercises that will help train for climbing. Some of those are bench presses, free lifts, pull-ups, and wrist curls. For a great way to build up strength is by doing static hangs, and for the forearms doing wrist rotations are a great exercise. For the chest muscles, bench presses are recommended. Another set of muscles that are very important to have worked on are the oblique muscles as well as the deltoids, latissimus dorsi, and the stomach muscles. For those muscles, crunches and twists while hanging from a bar will help work those muscles.

Another set of muscles that are essential for climbing are the shoulder muscles. Shoulder muscles help prevent any strain when you use your fingers, forearm, or wrist for hanging. When working on your shoulder muscles, lateral lifts and pull-ups work great.

Along with all the different exercises to keep your muscles healthy, it is important to have an overall healthy body; especially for balance, endurance and flexibility! If you do not have all the equipment you need for the weight lifting, you may go down to the local gym or you may even sign up for a vacation rental agreement; where you can take home the weights! However, how you lift weights is totally up to you!!

This article is about carpet cleaning. Different cleaning solutions are discussed. It figures! You’ve already spilt something on your new carpet. The more cautious of the mess you try to be, the more it can be seen springing around. The mess on the carpet can make your room look worse. But you don’t have to worry. You can very well manage the stains but it certainly depends on what way out you choose. Will you consult a professional carpet cleaner or will you try and wipe the stain out yourself?

It’s very easy to get rid of those small stains. Generally speaking, the smaller stains can be easily handled by using your own home remedies. Some stains are not very deep rooted and thus come out easily with one or two rub whereas there are others that are very firm and won’t go easily. Whenever you are cleaning stains on your carpet the first and the foremost part should be to blot out an area by pressing a white paper towel into the stain and to continue cleaning this way. This is a safer way to clean. Scrubbing the stains in a circular motion can tear down the texture of the carpet.

Dish washing liquid with household ammonia dissolved in very little amount of water, and white vinegar are popular ingredients used in the manufacturing of the available cleaning solutions. Along with these solutions, a bunch of paper towels, and a brick (for keeping the paper towel in place) will be helpful when removing stains on carpets. You would also require a spray bottle.

You can blot out the stain with a white paper towel whenever trying to remove the sticky, greasy marks. Later, to clean your paper towel you can rub it a little with isopropyl-rubbing alcohol. Make sure you are not using gallons of alcohol not letting it penetrate deeply into the carpet. You stain blotting movement should be only in one direction, when cleaning the surface.

To get rid off any watery spills, a wet vacuum always comes in handy. However, you can soak the affected area with tap water, if the stain appears to be dry, but remember not to over soak it. Let the water remain for about a minute and then start blotting out any of these types of stains on carpets.

The dish washing liquid is the best solution for rough stains on carpets. You will first need to thoroughly rub the stain with a detergent and then use plain water to rinse the detergent off. This water can be poured using a spray bottle. The stained area that has tougher stains has to be soaked in a strong chemical called hydrogen peroxide before blotting. Dry carpet cleaning systems is the best method of cleaning carpets.

Cleaning your carpets on your own might appear to be a tedious job. And it sure is too. But it is certainly better than having to pay for something that you could have done yourself with a little hard work and energy. Most professional carpet cleaners have hourly charges to the cleaning and do not mind taking their own sweet time to make your carpet sparkle. Before actually you set out to hire a professional, it might be worth at least giving it a shot to try cleaning those stains on carpets yourself.

April 3, 2008 on 3:51 am | In Home | No Comments
by Kurt Schefken

Every homeowner goes through a stage of life when a need is felt to upgrade the overall look of the home. Apart from giving you an added sense of comfort and luxury, such renovations and remodeling projects add to the value of your house, which can benefit you immensely when you decide to put the house on a resale. However, the heavy financial requirements associated with remodeling often put a halt on such projects, proving to be a major hassle. In such a situation, it is better to come up with solutions which are cost effective, but with a little detailing, can considerably add to the overall look of your house.

Kitchen and Bath Remodeling

Kitchen and bath remodeling is one such concept which has gained immense popularity in the previous years. Though the concept is at times marred by the heavy costs and processes due to the plumbing and the number of fixtures involved, yet kitchen and bath remodeling is one of the best and most modern ways to add to the overall look of your house. To save yourself from the hassle of the heavy costs involved, the easiest way is to opt for a cabinet redo, done in a professional manner with advice taken from experts. Even if you have a small kitchen, spend time on the design.

The Methods

Most often, cabinetry is one of the most prominent and primary accessories in the kitchen and bath areas. Adding a new look to these will give the whole place a refurnished look, and that too at a lesser expense. Though the projects for kitchen and bath remodeling can be more time consuming, but the end results are definitely worth the effort. Before you actually start with the kitchen and bath remodeling in your house, you need to spend some time doing actual planning for the same. You need to note down estimates of the time the entire process is likely to take, along with the exact lists of raw materials required. This is especially more important if this kitchen and bath remodeling requires more of renovation work on the cabinets.

Overall, it is an important decision to make whether your cabinets need total replacements or just an overhaul. In many cases, if the cabinets are dirty or grimy, all that is required is good bleaching, which can be done with a mixture of bleach, linseed oil and boiling water. In other cases, where only cleaning is required, the wood can be just stained and a coat of polyurethane can be applied. Other techniques like sponging and rag rolling can also be applied to give the cabinets a fresh look.

Antique purchase - a guide

April 3, 2008 on 3:47 am | In Home Repair | No Comments
by Adam Peters

This article deals with the subject of identifying the right and genuine object for the interior. It also throws light on the taste to be cultivated towards obtaining the perferct piece.

It is a good thought to be on constant lookout for that perfect antique to suit your interior. When choosing the winner be it a good car, horse, dog you should be able to reason out the difference. Similar is the case while identifying antique furniture, it could be found in run down condition with a small detail missing to authenticate it. A connoisseur with unlimited means at his disposal would settle for nothing less other than the trademark signature, for he would undoubtedly recognize an object d’art.

Careful imitations are available in plentiful in the markets of New York City and other cities and they are also bought in large numbers. They are works of art which one would crave to possess. Similar to the case of a vrai antique lover, whose mere glance would separate the original from the imitation. Time gives that unique finish to any surface. It is not important that the materials should be old but, it gathers quality just by being associated with a certain space. Kipling said, “One knows when a piece has ‘found itself’”.

Well, if you are young and having limited funds in your bank, unripe in taste, then you would go for a modern room with soft-toned or gay chintzes, brightly colored furniture and striking carpet covering. It is important that one goes about collecting old and rare pieces steadily. Some of the more rare collections have been assembled this way. As one gets richer, you could add to your collection with the rarest pieces. The thrill and the sense of a job well done will be a connoisseur’s delight, also keeping with your original scheme and pattern.

It is also perilous to indulge in impulsive furniture purchases. The after effects would only be visible when you put two and two together and find that they do not compliment each other and the entire spending would be a waste. Modern or antique, every fine looking piece is required to be an object to be appreciated in rudiment. It is possible that you may bequeath, buy or inherit an objet d’art or good antique, but you should definitely not be guilty of reverse. Now a days everybody prefers a minimalist interiors in their homes.

You would have to inculcate the obvious, genuine taste for rare and original things. It is generally easy to follow the unhealthy liking of our predecessors who had the habit of pushing things under the carpet. It is equally imperative that you retain an inartistic, unpleasing thing if it is useful rather than object which may be beautiful but of no use to the dcor.

Watch Out for A Mother-In-Law’s Tongue!

April 3, 2008 on 3:43 am | In Gardening | No Comments
by Kent Wiggins

If you are looking for a new indoor plant, the Sansevieria is a great option. It is better known as the Snake Plant, Mother-In-Law’s Tongue, etc. There are most commonly found in Africa, but can grow naturally in many areas around the world. These plants are very easy to care for and grow.

Their ideal conditions include low light and not much water. In the winter, they can go two months without any water. They are quite beautiful plants, and their looks are ever-changing because the patterns on the leaves change each time they grow new leaves. It is common for the leaves to be dark green with yellow stripes on the edges. Sometimes they can be speckled, or have a variation of other designs. The tips of the leaves are very sharp, so don’t place the plant somewhere that people will bump into it often. Be careful not to cut yourself when you are trying to water the plant or trim its leaves.

Since the Sansevieria doesn’t need much water, it doesn’t do well when it is watered too much. It will make the leaves fall off and the roots can rot. If you don’t water the plant enough, the leaves will wrinkle and the roots can become damaged. You should allow the soil to dry out between waterings. The Sansevieria is a drought resistant plant, so it can handle sections of time without much water. You can test the soil under the surface with a hygrometer or a tongue depressor. Insert the depressor into the soil a few inches to gauge the amount of moisture in the soil.

If you notice the leaves falling over, you should not stake them. Instead, trim the leaves at the base. You can then wait just a short time for new leaves to sprout.

The Sansevieria plants are tropical plants. When given plenty of heat and sunlight, they will grow quickly. They’ll need a pot large enough to accommodate this quick growth. The roots can even split a clay pot if the plant outgrows the space. If the pot is really large, the growth rate will truly surprise you.

Along with not needing much water, the Sansevieria doesn’t need much fertilizer. They will do best in soil with low nitrogen level. If the soil is too rich, the plants can become overwhelmed. They need similar conditions as a cactus in order to thrive.

Some species of the Sansevieria will produce white or greenish flowers. Other species have very useful leaves that can be made into string. Overall, the Sanseveria is an interesting, unique, beautiful, and low maintenance plant much like the bamboo palm or reed palm

White or greenish flowers will appear along the stalks of some species. Others are grown because of their great fibrous leaves that were historically used for bow strings, another name for one species of Sansevieria.

If you want a houseplant that is attractive and easy to tend, these delightful species will make a great part of your indoor garden. It is a great choice for an indoor plant.

Putting Your Way to the 18th Hole

Most people do not consider miniature golf to be much of a challenge, but these individuals may be surprised to learn that there are avid putt-putt golfers who that travel the United States searching for the next “big” game. Almost every town has at least one such golf course. There are websites that deal strictly with miniature golf vacations.

What better way to enjoy some good quality family time than to spend an afternoon at a nearby putt-putt course? Or, you could even center your family vacation around the idea of a miniature golf course. Putting and golfing can be the theme of your next annual family vacation whether vacationing in Florida or someplace in costa blanca. Searching out the largest miniature golf course in the United States could be a fantastic vacation and, perhaps, a secret desire of someone in you family.

Whether you are heading across town to your local putt-putt course or across several states to another small miniature golf course, you will more than likely also find a lot of fun and challenges for everyone. Typically, there is more than just a putt-putt course and a golf swing occurring everywhere you look. Such courses often offer video arcades, restaurants or even large ponds with goldfish to feed.

Golf is golf, it has been said, and regardless of how you get to play it be glad you are. Can the challenges on an actual golf course be that much more challenging than the dreaded windmills on a putt-putt course? Perhaps the windmills bring about the same feelings of course sand traps. Putt-putt golf courses come with obstacles such as dark caves, stampeding animals or even a giant whale that ate golf balls, as was once reported.

In reality the thought and preparation it takes to design a miniature golf hole rivals that of any “actual-sized” golf course. It is expensive to keep putt-putt golf courses running, mostly due to the electricity and energy required. Upkeep and maintenance of a putt-putt course is just as important as it is for any golf course. Although, putt-putt courses are seemingly suffering as one of America’s favorite pastimes, it will not fade quietly. With your curiosity, support and continued interest, future generations can know what it is like to putt golf ball through the mouth of a snake only to realize that it actually went through the snake and into the ninth hole for a fantastic hole-in-one experience.

Though red, pink and blue golf balls and pint-sized clubs may seem distracting to the die-hard golfer, you will discover much delight sharing the experience with family or friends as you make your way through the miniature course. Keeping score is just as fun miniature golf as it is in real golf, but one secret is to appoint the most honest person in the group as the scorekeeper.

So, the next time you cannot think of anything fun to do or need a birthday party idea, putt-putt is the answer. It is fun, good exercise and affordable!
