Bronchitis Remedies - What Works And What Doesn’t

If you’re suffering from bronchitis, the bad news is that there’s no cure. You’ll just have to wait for it to go away on its own. At the same time, that doesn’t mean you have to suffer with full-blown symptoms; there are bronchitis remedies out there.

If you need some bronchitis remedies, here’s a list to get you started:

1. In a glass of milk, add half a teaspoon of turmeric. Drink this two to three times a day on an empty stomach.

2. Drink a tea made from 1/2 tsp of cloves, pepper, and ginger powder. Or, you can just mix these ingredients up with honey and eat it straight. This anti-inflammatory mixture will reduce the amount of mucous your body is producing right now. The ginger will help give your immune system a fighting edge.

3. Drink a teaspoon of raw onion juice for the next four months every morning. That’s right, onion juice. It might not be the most appetizing, but it comes with healing benefits.

4. Some other bronchitis remedies include veggies. Take some fresh spinach leaves, eight ounces of water, and mix a teaspoon of honey and a wee bit of ammonium chloride. This is a good bronchitis remedy.

5. In a pan, heat up some castor oil plant leaves. After they cool, spread them on your chest (or on whoever else has bronchitis). But remember, it’s poisonous, so don’t eat it! Try to keep the leaves somewhere overnight.

6. Mix flour, water, and mustard powder together in equal amounts. Once it’s all mixed, spread it over your bare chest. However, many people are sensitive to mustard, so be sure to test it on a small area of your skin first.

7. Every day, drink some fresh cabbage juice.

8. Boil a cup of water, then pour it over a cup of ground or cut horseradish roots. Let the mixture sit for five minutes or so, then start drinking. Repeat three times a day for a week.

9. Mix a cup of hot water with 1/2 teaspoon of licorice root tea. Before you drink it, be sure to let it cool and then strain it. Repeat this 3 times a day.

A lot of these bronchitis remedies might seem a little unorthodox, but these natural products often have excellent expectorant, mucous-reducing, anti-viral agents.

Scapegoating And Persuasion

There was a period of time there where it seemed like every single car I’d see had a “United We Stand” bumper sticker. They were implying that standing together was our only salvation. After all, what happens if we don’t stand united? We fall divided.

Is this really true? If we buy into the idea at the core of the current political agenda (standing united, defeating terrorists, spreading democracy) will we all be just fine? Or in doing this do we blindly agree with an entire world of presuppositions?

With scapegoating, the best way to get us all on board-to unite-is to have a common enemy, a boogie man, a Satan, Saddam Hussein or a terrorist to rage against.

In religion, Christianity specifically, we have Satan. In politics, say in the 1950’s, there was the communist threat. More recently in politics, we had Scooter Libby (more of a fall guy, as opposed to scapegoat, say the pundits, because scapegoat implies innocence and fall guys are usually involved in the blame.)

The Salem Witch Trials were all about scapegoating. At the time, the citizens were having difficulty as a result of church and state, so to divert attention women were hunted down as the cause of society’s ills and burned at the stake.

Religion is great for scapegoating. Adam blamed Eve, Eve blamed the serpent. The Baptists show how the Mormons miss the point and lead people astray and visa versa. In order for Christianity to exist, Satan is the ‘necessary evil’, so to speak. Without Satan there is nothing to save humanity from. The concept of Satan has single-handedly maintained Christianity throughout the years.

I want to stress here that I am not debating the existence of Satan. I have no intention or interest in converting or recruiting anybody to my spiritual, religious or political beliefs. I am simply showing how scapegoating can and has been used over the years.

Politically, scapegoating is multi-layered and at play when our attention is diverted from the body count in Iraq to a focus on gay marriage or stem cell research.

We saw scapegoating rise to the status of national phenomenon during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. It even got a new name: The Blame Game. The mayor blamed the governor and the president. The governor blamed the president and the mayor. The president congratulated his FEMA appointee and suggested things were going swell until he realized no one was buying it and then proceeded to blame the governor and the mayor. Some folks in the government even suggested that no one was to blame, it was a natural disaster.

Seems like people ultimately want to believe that their problems or failures are the result of something outside themselves.

In sales and business scapegoating can be used to suggest your new client or prospect’s former adviser (or agent), lacked knowledge and gave terrible advice and is responsible for preventing the client from earning what they should have earned.

To use this tactic ethically, try making the scapegoat an opposing force such as an idea, philosophy or an unfortunate circumstance and not a person or group.
